Fading Away

You know it can happen. You hear other people talk about it happening. But you never think it will happen to you. Well, today it happened to me.
There is a woman I work with who has purchased several peyote rings from me. Today she came up to me with one that had been her favorite. It was originaly made with a variety of lovely blue size 10 Delicas, some matte and some shiny. When she showed it to me today it looked like it had mange. Many of the shiny beads had lost their color. Looking at them, I can now see that the color was only applied to the inside of the bead. As this is her favorite ring, she wore it a lot. The constant wear caused the beads to move around on the thread. Moving around on the thread wore the color away. Dammit.
Live and learn I guess. Just annoying cause I thought I already "knew". She is not too upset with me, and I am going to give her a good deal on a bracelet I have made that she likes to make up for it. Still just really frustrating. Luckily, this is the only ring I made with that mix. *sigh*

Treasury

I decided to try making an Etsy Treasury. I picked out some lovely rings that made me think of Spring. Frankly I am sick of winter and ready for warmth, green, growing, hopping, Spring Fun!

I picked some rings for their fun spring colors (greans, pinks, purples) others for Spring themes(birds, flowers, frogs). And a few for their Spring spirt (rebirth, springyness).

All of them make me want to make more rings... so I think I will. My next post should be a new pattern for a fun Spring ring!

Etsy Beadweavers Street Team!

I have just been accepted to the Etsy BeadWeavers Street Team. This is a group of Etsy shop owners who offer predominately beadwoven materials. This will allow me to enter challenges, work with other shops for cross promotion, and join in a community of bead weavers. All around, a rather cool thing.

Spring Dreams

Spring Dreams

Ok, so we got 9 inches of snow this week and had windchills around -20 degrees F. I am so done with winter at this point.

So, I was dreaming of warmth and all things Spring and made this ring last night (it is my Ring A Week entry this week). It is based on a design that was available free on the Bead and Button website. The original design by Julie Riggs was for a bracelet with 3 flowers. It was done in crossweave(2 needle weaving). I didn't want a whole bracelet, so I decided to do just one flower, and since I don't like crossweave I reworked the thread path a little to allow for it to be done with just one needle. The flower is made from 20 4mm bicone crystals, 1 6mm round crystal, and 10 size 11 seed beads. The band is done with a gram or so of size 11 Delicas.

Overall, I think I am fairly happy with how it turned out. I think I will make a few more in some other colors and then list them this weekend in my Etsy shop.
